South Manitou

This project was a unique one. My partner and I had planned a backpacking trip to one of the Manitou islands on Lake Michigan. On top of all the camping gear I still decided to bring my 35mm camera and about 10 rolls of Portra 160. Apparently my camera’s light seals had worn down, thus the crazy exposure on a lot of these shots. But I think it led to some very unique photographs and in some ways captured the feeling of seeing this environment for the first time. You could find a little bit of everything here. Reclaimed farm land, ship wreckages, beautiful beaches, light houses, an old growth cedar forest, and an untouched dune ecosystem. This is truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.
